Hit & Run. Leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging information with the other driver or leaving identifying information if no one else is at the scene.

Vehicle Code Section 20001(a):


Hit & Run with Injury: Similar to hit and run, with the additional requirement that someone is injured as a result of the accident. Can be charged as either a felony or a misdemeanor.

If the injury is not serious, this offense will be charged as a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of 1 year in the county jail. If the accident results in serious, permanent injury or death, the prosecuting agency can file the case as either a misdemeanor or a felony. If filed as a felony, the defendant is facing up to 3 years in state prison.
